Shubha Biography

Shubha is a south Indian film actress who predominantly worked during 1980s. She played several main lead and supporting roles and has been a part of several multi-star cast movies. Apart from all south Indian languages, she has also acted in a few Hindi films. She is the cousin of the Bollywood diva Rekha and actress Pushpavalli (Rekha’s mother) was her aunt. Shubha is the daughter of famous filmmaker and actor of yesterdays - Vedantam Raghavaiah best known for the Telugu film Devdas (1953).

Shubha was born into a family with strong film background. Her father - Vedantam Raghavaiah was a veteran Telugu film actor, choreographer, director and producer, while her mother Suryaprabha too has also appeared in a few movies. Shubha had 6 siblings including one brother. Her aunt Pushpavalli (father’s sister) was linked to famous actor, Gemini Ganeshan, who had a daughter Rekha who later became a Bollywood star.

Shubha started her film career as a child artist for the Malayalam movie – Ollathumathi in 1967. She played a teenager in a few more movies like Gaayathri, Devi Kanyaakumaari etc. After mid-1970s, she moved to adult roles and she played both lead and parallel lead roles. She played Sukumaran’s sister in 1978 movie – Bandhanam. With the early 1980s she got noticed for her sexy image in Malayalam cinema. Kochu Kochu Thettukal (1980) was one of her noted roles in the first phase of her career.

She was also seen in softcore biblical film – Adipapam. Vayal, Rakthamillatha Manushyan, Kazhukan, Kochu Kochu Thettukal, Meen, Sphodanam, Sanchaar, Chaatta, Vazhikal Yaathrakkar, Ee Nadu, Lekhayude Maranam Oru Flashback etc are some of her noted roles in the early 1980s. She was paired with Jayan for 1979 movie – Kazhukan. With the year 2000, she took retirement from films and was last seen in the movie – Varavaay.
