Shibu Chakravarthy Biography

Shibu Chakravarthy is a popular lyricist and screenwriter associated with Malayalam cinema. Nair Saab, Manu Uncle and Adharvam, all for actor Mammootty are his best known scripts. He has also penned lyrics for more than 250 Malayalam songs for about 75 films. Allimalarkkaavu in 1984 marked his debut in Mollywood as a lyricist. “Chemparathi Poove” of Mammootty- Nadia Moidu starrer Shyama was one of his noted hits as a lyricist in the 1980s. Ormakal oodikalikkuvan ethunnu of Mukundetta Sumitra vilikkunnu, Andhiponvettam of Vandanam, Eeeran megham poovum konde of Chitram, Karukavayal kuruvi of Druvam and Ente nee kanna of Sasneham sumitra are among his ever green songs. He has penned lyrics for numerous evergreen hits of Mammootty and Mohanlal starrer movies. He has also done significant contributions to Malayalam jingles. He has also done a few documentary films.

 

Shibu Chakravarthy was born on 17 February 1961 in Kaloor, Ernakulam. He has 4 sisters. He schooled at St. George School Edappally and completed post-graduation in Philosophy from Maharajas College. He also completed a diploma in journalism. He is married to Shiji, Principal in NPOL School, Vijyana Sagar. The couple has one son and one daughter.

 

Since childhood he was inspired by his uncle Eroor Vesudev and he started writing poems at a younger age. At the age of 18, he started writing for private albums. He was introduced to Malayalam Film Industry by Rajan Prakash of Prakash Movies. He was only 23 when he penned lyrics for his first movie – Allimalarkkavu in 1984. Since then he is active in the Malayalam film industry as a popular lyricist. He set up a co-operative society in the world of Malayalam animation and known for his contributions to the world of jingles.
