Shankar Melkote Biography

Shankar Melkote is a noted character artist associated with Telugu film industry, best known for playing comic roles. He started his film career with Jandhyala's Srivariki Premalekha in 1984 and has appeared in more than 180 films. He also serves as the CEO of a marketing company in Hyderabad. He is a speaker and writer at Hyderabad Literary Festival. He is married to Rama, the daughter of M. V. Sridhar, well noted Hyderabad Ranji cricket player and Former BCCI General Manager. One of the most reputed and respected artists of Telugu film industry, Jallu released in 2009 remains his most memorable role. Love Cycle (2013) and Lacchimdeviki O Lekkundi (2016) are other popular roles.

 

Shankar Melkote is a corporate person and acting in films is just a hobby. He started doing Telugu movies with Usha Kiran Movies' Srivariki Prema Lekha directed by Jandhya in 1984. For next 20 years he didn't work for another banner and loves to work with the same group. Later he started working with other banners and has completed 180 movies in his professional career. The actor is known for his distinct voice, and earned popularity in the industry as a comedian.

 

A many of many caps, his career can never be fully defined by a single role. He is a successful businessman and entrepreneur too. He also works in television shows. He belongs to Nizami culture. Apart from Telugu, he is versed in Urdu, English and Hindi languages too. He learnt Telugu after his marriage with Rama from Telangana. He is into Hindustani classical music while his wife Rama is into Western Classical. While working in Mumbai into the field of marketing, he lost chance to work in two memorable Bollywood films - the role of a Brahmin priest in Ankur, and also one role in Nishant.
