Shakti Prasad Biography

Shakti Prasad was a south Indian film actor who predominantly worked in Kannada films. He is best remembered for playing antagonist and grey shaded roles on silver screen. Many of his family members and next generation members have inherited acting talents from him, and earned fame as actors on silver screen. Noted south Indian actor Arjun Sarja is his son, while Chiranjeevi Sarja, Dhruva Sarja and Aishwarya Arjun are his grandchildren, belonging to the third generation of actors from his family. All of them are established actors in south Indian cinema, predominantly in Tamil and Telugu. Shakti Prasad lived during the period, 1928 – 2 August 1986.

 

Shakti Prasad’s real name is J. C. Ramaswamy. He was born in the year 1928 in Kingdom of Mysore, British India. He was active in film screen since mid-1960s to mid-1980s, playing numerous villain roles on screen, apart from a few character roles. He appeared in more than 100 Kannada films including landmark films such as Immadi Pulikeshi in 1967 and Antha in 1981. As a film actor, some of his best roles include - Antha (1981), Sahasa Simha (1982) and Jedara Bale (1968). Both his negative and character roles received praises from audience.

 

He hailed from Mysore. He was married to Lakshmi Devi and had two sons Arjun Sarja and Kishore Sarja. Arjun Sarja later turned a very famous actor, with whole support from his father, who also acted as his mentor giving advices and direction. Kishore Sarja worked in Tamil films as a director, yet couldn’t succeed as his father and brother. Shakti Prasad died on 2nd August 1986 in Bangalore aged 58 only. At that time he was fully active in film career.
