Sameer Sharma (Director) Biography

Sameer Sharma is a Bollywood film director best known for his maiden venture - Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana. This light hearted comedy film starring Kunal Kapoor, Huma Qureshi and Rajesh Sharma was well received by critics and audience. The legendary playback singer Mukesh is his maternal grandfather and film actor Neil Nitin Mukesh is his cousin. Bollywood playback singer Nitin Mukesh is his uncle. The film distributor B. M. Sharma was his paternal grandfather.


Sameer Sharma started his film career as an assistant director in the mid-1990s. He worked as an assistant director for SRK’s big two hits – DDLJ and Dil to pagal hai. In the early 2000s he moved towards script writing and co-scripted movies like Swades, Bhoot and Khoya Khoya Chand. He also wrote the dialogues of Aishwarya Rai-Ajay Devgan starrer Raincoat. After associated with many film directors for many years, he decided to do a film of his own.

 
Sameer’s father is a hotelier and so he got opportunity to spent much of his childhood in hotel kitchens. He is associated with music family as well (Mukesh is his grandfather). In his debut movie ‘Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana’, he chose food as the main topic and the whole movie revolves round a chicken recipe. In his upcoming release, he is to experiment with his second love – Music. Sameer Sharma's next is Jugalbandi with Neil, his cousin.

 
He wrote ‘Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana’ aside Sumit Batheja in Punjabi version first and Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra liked their work. Yet Sameer felt something missing in the script and he reworked on it. Later he narrated the script to Anurag Kashyap and a few more directors and the movie happened.
