Saad Khan Biography

Saad Khan is an Indian film director and screenwriter known for making critically well-acclaimed movies. He is also an acting teacher and founder and creative head of Centerstage, who promotes budding talents. Before becoming an independent film director he assisted filmmaker Ashutosh Gowariker. He received Young Achiever in Media by Whistling Woods International and one of his short films ‘Another Kind of Black’ was screened in Cannes Film Festival in 2008. He has also been awarded by Symbiosis International University for his talents as a filmmaker. In March 2014, his Bollywood thriller, Station: The Film was released which was highly praised by critics. The movie included an ensemble star cast of Sameer Kevin Roy, Kanika Batra, Vibhinta Verma, and Siddhanth Sundar.

 

Saad was born in Mumbai and raised in Bangalore. He holds a Mechanical engineering degree from M.S. Ramaiah Institute of Technology. It was during his college days he developed his interest in theatre. He was 17 then. He started writing and directing plays and was associated with a theater group for 4 years, delivering 12 plays. He then took decision to pursue a career in movie making. After engineering, he joined Tisch School of the Arts, New York University to study more about filmmaking. He also received a Master’s degree in Communication and Media from University of Louisiana at Lafayette.

 

Then he started with short films. He wrote and directed two short films - Another Kind of Black and On My Mind. His short film ‘Another Kind of Black’ was screened in Cannes Film Festival in 2008. ‘On My Mind’ was screened at the Acadiana Film Festival. After returning to India, he worked as an assistant of Ashutosh Gowariker before the setup of his media company Centerstage in Bangalore.
