Rupinder Inderjit Biography

Rupinder Inderjit is a film and television writer, who gained recognition for scripting the Punjabi film, Ishq Brandy. The movie was well-received by Punjabi film audience as a light-hearted entertainer. Prior to scripting for movies, he has been associated with Balaji Telefilms as a screenwriter for Punjabi shows. He also wrote a few episodes for "Dekh Bhai Dekh – 2", the sequel to the iconic comedy show of Doordarshan in the 1990s, and also for Savdhaan India for Life Ok.

 

Rupinder Inderjit was born in Patiala. 7th October is his birthday. He grew up in the village Dholan, Tehsil Jagraon of Ludhiana district of Punjab, where he completed schooling from Guru Hargobind Public Senior Secondary School, Sidhwan Khurd. He happened to read Raj Kapoor's published personal diary, and it inspired him a lot to tell and write stories in narrative way. That’s how he got into scripting field. Among all Raj Kapoor movies, he loved Prem Rog.

 

He also loved watching Bollywood movies on television and dreamed to become a film maker one day. But later he got obsessed with Punjabi literature and writers. He was deeply inspired by the poems of Punjabi poet Shiv Kumar Batalvi. Rupinder started composing his own poems and earned encouragement from his close friends. A brilliant student in studies, he completed both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Anthropology with distinction and a university Gold Medal from Panjab University.

 

He moved to Mumbai to pursue his dreams in films and also worked in market research for 3 years based on his educational qualification. Later he quit his job and pursued a career in writing. He started with Punjabi TV shows, before moving to movies, and after scripting the film, Ishq Brandy he shot to instant fame.
