Ruchi Narain Biography

Ruchi Narain is an acclaimed film director, producer and screenwriter who works in Bollywood. As an artist she is best known for co-scripting the highly acclaimed political drama film, Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi directed by Sudhir Misra in 2005 in India. The movie was showcased at various film festivals two years before its release in India. She shared Filmfare best story award aside Sudhir Mishra and Shiv Kumar Subramaniam for this best rated film.

 

Ruchi has scripted and two films - Hanuman Da' Damdaar (2017) and Kal: Yesterday and Tomorrow (2005), and produced one of them. She has also contributed to the script of Calcutta Mail (2003), and wrote the story of Snip! (2000). She is currently Mumbai based and predominantly works with Bollywood scripts.

 

Ruchi Narain was born in Mumbai in 1976. She spent her early years in Muscat, Oman and Dubai, and attended the Sultan's School. Later she moved to India and pursued a career as a writer in Bollywood film industry, which she succeeded. As she spent most of her younger days in Middle East, Bollywood was not anywhere in her dreams. She watched Shyam Benegal’s Ankoor, and got drawn towards Indian filmmaking. She did a course called SCM at Sapphires, and was placed for internship towards the end of the course. That’s how she got connected to films.

 

She attended a film festival and decided to start up with documentaries so that she can try her luck as a filmmaker later. She started off her internship with Sudhir Misra for his film projects and got her first break as a co-writer for Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi. She was also credited as a writer and after her work got noticed, her career took off.
