Roopa Devi Biography

Roopa Devi is a south Indian film actress who predominantly worked in Kannada movies. She has also done a few Tamil and Malayalam movies too. Roopa was most active in the era of 1980s, and has done both lead and supporting roles in her career. As a film actress, she is best known for playing the lead role in Tamil romantic tragic film, Oru Thalai Ragam released in 1980. She played the female lead opposite Shankar in this campus love story which ran for 365 days at theaters. The film also marked the acting debut of a bunch of youngsters - Shankar, Roopa, Thyagu and Ravindran in Tamil cinema. She is the daughter of veteran actress Advani Lakshmi Devi.

Roopa Devi is credited as Roopa in films. She is the daughter of veteran Kannada actress Advani Lakshmi Devi. Roopa gave equal importance to Tamil and Kannada film career. She debuted in Kannada cinema in the year 1980 through the movie Simha Jodi in which she played the role of Vishnuvardhan's sister. Same year she played her first lead role through her debut Tamil film, Oru Thalai Ragam opposite Sankar. The campus love story is widely regarded as one of the best campus films made in Tamil cinema, which truly represented students. The movie also gave initial success to many artists who worked in front of and behind the camera for the first time. The film marked the debut of T. Rajender as writer and composer too.

As an actress associated with Kannada films, some of her noted works include - Marali Goodige, Avala Antharanga, Trishoola, Kamala, Haalu Jenu, Ahuthi, Dharma and Bala Nouke. She worked with almost all lead actors of the 1980s. She won Karnataka state award for best actress for the movie, Avala Antharanga in 1985. Her role as prostitute in Kamala is yet another memorable role in Kannada films.
