Rohit Jugraj Chauhan Biography

Rohit Jugraj Chauhan is an Indian film director, associated with Bollywood and Punjabi cinema. He has previously worked as assistant director to ace filmmakers, Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Ram Gopal Varma before he turned a full-fledged filmmaker. As a film director, his first break was given by producer-director Ram Gopal Varma through the movie, James in 2005. He scripted and directed 2008 Bollywood film, Superstar, and also scripted the thriller, Players. After limited success in Bollywood, he moved to Punjabi cinema, and succeeded as a filmmaker. As a film director of Punjabi movies, he has made 4 films since 2014, and currently working on the 5th movie, Arjun Patiala starring Kriti Sanon, Diljit Dosanjh and Varun Sharma.

 

Rohit Jugraj Chauhan worked as an assistant director to Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Ram Gopal Varma since 2002. He was In-charge of TV Campaign for 2003 experimental anthology horror film, Darna Mana Hai produced by Ram Gopal Varma. Varma also gave him the first break as a director through James in 2005. But the movie flopped at box office. Rohit continued in Bollywood as a film director and screenwriter for a few more years before he fully switched to Punjabi cinema in year 2014.

 

The director feels that Punjabi cinema granted him more opportunities, and he grabbed them all. Jatt James Bond (2014) was his first film in Punjabi language. The movie starred Gippy Grewal and Zareen Khan as leads, along with Gurpreet Ghuggi and Yashpal Sharma. It was Zareen Khan’s first Punjabi film. The film won eight awards at the PTC Punjabi Film Awards in 2015, enough to establish Rohit’s career in Punjabi cinema. Sardaarji, Sardaar Ji 2 and Khido Khundi are his released movies later.
