Ranya (actress) Biography

Ranya Rao is a south Indian film actress who works in Tamil and Kannada films. She is a successful model too. She marked her film debut with Kannada big budget film, Maanikya, where she shared screen space with V. Ravichandran, Sudeep, Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, Ramya Krishnan and P. Ravi Shankar, and the movie turned to be the highest grosser Kannada movie too. This action drama film was released in 2014. Later she acted in one more Kannada film, Pataki in 2017 in a lead role sharing screen space with Ganesh. In 2016 she marked her Tamil film debut through Wagah, where she was casted as female lead opposite Vikram Prabhu.

She hails from the Chikmagalur district of Karnataka. She completed her schooling at Kodagu, and later pursued her engineering degree at Bangalore. However to try her luck in films, she dropped out. Then she convinced her parents and took training in acting from Kishore Namit Kapoor Acting Institute in Mumbai. She also started modelling career almost at the same time. Her modelling career took off and very soon she joined films. She also trained in martial arts and dance and performed in quite a few stage plays.

In 2014 she signed her first movie, Maanakya in Kannada. It is the costliest film ever made in Kannada cinema, and once got released it turned to be a blockbuster completing 100 days. Maanikya went on to become the highest grossing Kannada movie. Her mother and well-wishers circulated her portfolio pictures among casting co-ordinators. Sudeep came across her pictures and called her for a screen test. She delivered a few dialogues, gave screen test, and finally bagged the role. She wants to play bubbly type of roles, quite suiting her age, and not want to do serious woman centric roles at this point of time.
