Ramesh Bhat Biography

Ramesh Bhat is a senior Kannada actor who works in movies and television shows. He is best known for playing supporting and character roles on big screen. He received Karnataka State Film Award for Best Supporting Actor twice for the movies – Uyyale (2010) and Mana Manthana (2015). Bhat was a part of very popular Doordarshan series of late 1980s, Malgudi Days. He appeared in various roles in different episodes of the show throughout. He is associated with Kannada cinema since 1970s. He has been a part of theater since 1960s before he moved to films. He has directed one film, Parameshi Prema Prasanga in 1985 which received positive reviews from critics. He played title role in the film.

 

Ramesh Bhat was born in Kundapur taluk of Karnataka. Manki village near Gujjadi is his native place. He completed his primary education from his village and used to mimic national leaders like Nehru for school cultural activities. When his father got transferred to the capital city of Karnataka, he too moved with him. Since 1960s Ramesh got attached with drama, and he continued his association with stage plays throughout 1970s till he turned busy with films. As a film actor he marked his debut with Abachurina Post Office in 1973.

 

With early 1980s, he became more regular on Kannada big screen. He mostly played supporting roles. Minchina Ota, Geetha, Nodi Swamy Navirodu Hige, Makkaliralavva Mane Thumba, Parameshi Prema Prasanga, Accident etc are some of his roles in the early 1980s. He got some meaty roles in the 1990s and later. During his early theater days of 1970s, he became a friend of Shankar Nag, which brought him to movies as well. Ramesh Bhat frequently worked in the movies of Shankar Nag since 1980s.
