Rajkumar Hirani Biography
Rajkumar Hirani is an Indian film director and screenwriter concentrating in Hindi cinema. He has won several awards for his works. Many of his works went on to be the highest grosser of the Hindi film industry.
Rajkumar Hirani was born on 22nd November 1962 in Nagpur in Maharashtra in a Sindhi family. He is popularly known as Raju Hirani. His father’s name is Suresh Hirani and his mother’s name is Sheela Hirani. His father ran a typing institute in Nagpur and his mother was a retired school teacher.
He completed his school education at St. Francis De’Sales High School at Nagpur in Maharashtra. He pursued his higher studies and got his graduation in commerce and wanted to establish his career in film industry. His father’s intention to join him in the acting school at Mumbai was not successful. Later he joined the editing course at the Film and Television Institute of India in Pune and completed his studies in 1987.His wife’s name is Manjeet and they have a son.
After completing his education in film editing, he worked as film editor for many years. However he got some bad experiences in that which made him shift to advertising. Then he set his foot in directing and producing films. He is noted for his Fevicol advertisement. However since he wnted to focus in making movies, he took a short break from advertising industry and started his own company Canvas Films.
The film Munnabhai MBBS in 2003 marked his directorial debut. This broke all conventions in Bollywood film industry and went on to be a great success and set new trends. His next venture Lage Raho Munnabhai was also a huge hit which was both a critical and commercial success. Again his third film 3 Idiots shattered all records and became the highest grosser of the year.
Some of the films for which he worked as an editor include 1942: A Love Story, Kareeb, Mission Kashmir, Parineeta, Eklavya: The Royal Guard, etc.
