Rajasree (telugu Actress) Biography

Rajasree is a very famous Telugu Actress of yesterdays. She also acted in some Tamil and Malayalam movies. She sarted her film journey as a child artist and later moved to lead roles. She remained one of the top lead actresses of Telugu cinema since mid-1950s to late 1970s. She has been frequently casted as female lead as princess opposite top heroes of yesterdays - N. T. Rama Rao and Tadepalli Lakshmi Kanta Rao. Her roles alongside Ravichandran in the Tamil comedy films were also well received. Rajasree was honoured with the MGR Award in 2004. In Malayalam films, she is best known for playing negative role of Gracy in cult classic drama, Bharya. Interestingly it’s her first movie in adult role.

 

Her birth name is Kusuma Kumari. She was born on 31 August 1945 in Eluru, West Godavari, Andhra Pradesh. She is also known by the names, Rajasri, Gracy and Rajasree.T. Rajsree first appeared as a child artiste in the Tamil film Naga Devadhai in 1956. After that she played child roles throughout 1950s and early 1960s, and worked in Tamil, Telugu and Kannada language films. As an adult actress, she marked her debut with Malayalam film Bharya in 1962, where she played the antagonist. After the success of her debut flick, many of her early names were credited with the name, Gracy, her character name in the cult classic. Kadalamma (1963), Rebecca (1963), Pazhassi Raja (1964), Shakuntala (1965) etc are some of her major roles in Malayalam movies.

 

During 1962-1963 period, she played supporting roles in a series of Tamil movies, and couldn’t get lead offers. Later the actress got busy with Telugu films. Yet she continued working in Malayalam films, playing lead roles. She played female lead in Tamil comic classic, `Kaadhalikka Neramillai’, which shot her to fame. She also reprised the same role in Telugu and Hindi remakes, opposite Akkini Nageswara Rao and Shashi Kapoor respectively.

 

Constable Kuthuru (1962) opposite Kanta Rao marked her debut in Telugu industry in lead role. Her debut film in Kannada was Kantheredu Nodu (1961). She did 76 films in Telugu. Her last film in Telugu was Andame Anandham (1977). She also did 60 films in Tamil and 30 films in Kannada, apart from several Malayalam movies.
