Raj Kumar Gupta Biography

Raj Kumar Gupta is a Bollywood film director known for critically acclaimed movies like Aamir and commercial hits like No One Killed Jessica (2011). Ghanchakkar (2013) was his latest release which starred Vidya Balan and Emraan Hashmi in lead roles. He made his film debut through Aamir in 2007, which emerged as the dark house of the year. The movie was highly praised for its direction as well as performances. His second release was the first hit of 2011 - No One Killed Jessica, noticed for the commercial success with a real-life incident, without any male actors. The credits fully went to Vidya Balan and Rani Mukherji who carried away the script with ease and the movie fared well at box office too. However his third release was a commercial failure.  Rajkumar Gupta's next film is based on Chetan Bhagat's best seller, 'Revolution 2020'.

Gupta hails from Hazaribagh in Jharkhand. His father retired as the branch manager of State Bank of India. He completed schooling from his hometown and later went to Bokaro to finish intermediate studies. Then he completed graduation in Commerce from Ramjas College in Delhi. It was during this time when he developed interest in creative writings. After studies, he wrote ads. But he was not successful and hence decided to come to Mumbai at the age of 23. He joined Xavier Institute of Communications and assisted a few ad films as a part of studies.

He began his film career assisting film director Anurag Kashyap on Black Friday and No Smoking. He got associated with television for a brief time as a writer before making his Bollywood debut through Aamir in 2007. The movie starred Rajeev Khandelwal in pivot role and its theme was a suicide bomb attack. After Aamir be scripted Barah aana before his second directorial venture. This director is known for his association with UTV motion pictures.
