Rabi Kinagi Biography

Rabi Kinagi is a film director, editor and a script-writer associated with Bengali and Oriya film industry. This director though has made several hit films in both these languages he has also been in many controversies due to his frame-to-frame copying of several Hindi, Kannada and Tamil movies to Bengali. In fact his Bengali film, Poran Jaye Jolia Re, a remake of Bollywood blockbuster Namastey London was banned b Kolkata high court for plagiarism. Apart from writing screenplay and doing direction, he has also edited a few movies such as Premer Kahini. He wrote the screenplay and the dialogues of the film - Bhalobasa Bhalobasa. This senior director is associated with the entertainment industry since late 1970s.

 

Rabi Kinagi currently resides in Kolkata, West Bengal. He started off with Oriya films, before moving to Bengali film industry. Kaberi (1983), Maanini (1979), Suna Chadhei (1987) etc are some of his early Oriya films. With 1990s, he became more active in Bengali film industry. He worked with almost all leading actors of Bengali film industry like Jeet, Tapas Pal, Jisshu Sengupta, Archana Joglekar, Jeet, Srabanti Chatterjee, Swastika Mukherjee, Koel Mallick, Dev, Payal sarkar, Prosenjit Chatterjee, Sayantika Banerjee etc.

 

Most of his Bengali hits have been remakes of either Hindi or south Indian films. He made three such remakes in a row with Jeet and Srabanti Chatterjee in the lead roles – Wanted, Josh and Fighter during 2011-2012. He later made one movie with this hit pair – Deewana in 2013. He frequently worked with Jeet for majority of his films. This director has also played a significant role in making Jeet a successful Tollywood actor. Ki Kore Toke Bolbo starring Ankush Hazra and Mimi Chakraborty is his recent release.
