Raam Reddy Biography

Raam Reddy is a film director, writer and photographer, associated with Kannada movies. He marked his directorial debut with 2016 film, Thithi, where he directed an array of non-actors. The movie opened to very high positive reviews, and has been screened at many international film festivals. The movie premiered at Locarno International Film Festival in 2015, won the Golden Leopard in the "Filmmakers of the Present" category as well as the First Feature award. The movie also bagged National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Kannada. The movie won Best Asian Film at Bengaluru International Film Festival, and a dozen of international awards apart from several state awards.

Raam Reddy was born in Karnataka into a political family. His grandfather, K. C. Reddy served as the first chief minister of Karnataka. His mother Anita Reddy is a social worker from Karnataka and the founder of Association for Voluntary Action and Services (AVAS). During his teens he was interested in wild life photography and he held an exhibition of his photographs when he was only 16. Later his interest shifted to films. He also authored a book, It's Raining in Maya when he was only 21. He completed his graduation from Delhi.

To pursue a career in films, he studied Film Direction at Prague Film School. Then Raam began his career with short films. He wrote and directed many short films which include 'Ika' which won numerous awards at many film festivals. This short film was also screened at over 20 International film festivals winning everyone’s hearts.

Raam directed the movie, Thithi in 2016 stealing critics’ hearts and audience’s, and it bagged at least one award at almost every film festival where it was screened.  It told the story about three generations of men reacting to the death of their 101-year-old patriarch. Raam wants to work with very talented Bollywood actors, Irrfan Khan and Nawazuddin Siddiqui whose work he admires most.
