R. P. Patnaik Biography

R. P. Patnaik is a film director and music director from south India who works in all south Indian languages except Malayalam. Till now, he has composed music of about 60 films of which many are instant hits. His ambition was to become a film director. But destiny played another game and he became a music director of the industry. But in 2008, Patnaik made his directorial debut with the film Andamaina Manasulo, followed by two more released movies - Broker (2010) and Friends Book. His fourth project is titled Thulasidhalam and yet to get released. He is doing its music as well as acting too. He was given the first break as director by Teja. He is to do his first English project ‘Amy’ – a supernatural thriller.

Friends Book was a bilingual film in Telugu and Tamil. As a music director he is quite successful and also owns a hat-trick at Filmfare for best music direction. The movies are Nuvvu Nenu, Santosham and Excuse Me. Jeyem is another popular album. He is also a live performer who conducts stage shows both in India and abroad. His first stage show was conducted at Visaq seashore in 2002 attended by more than 600,000 people. He played title role in Seenu Vasanti Lakshmi (remake of Malayalam flick, Vasanthiyum Lakshmiyum pinne jnanum) and Broker, which gained huge applause.

Among his popular albums, Jeyam have sold about 2.5 million units and till the most successful one. Apart from composing music for 60 movies, he has also rendered his voice for several songs for about 300. He composed an international album called Chjakra the Signature of Time. At present he is a member of Grammy Academy. He also enjoys the credit of introducing many playback singers to south Indian music. Karthik, Ranjith, Mallikarjun, Ravivarma, Nihal, and Kausalya are among those singers.
