Prodyut Kumar Deka Biography

Prodyut Kumar Deka is an Indian author, screenwriter and acclaimed filmmaker from the state of Assam. As a film director some of his major works are Dhunia Tirutabur, Samiran Barua Ahi Ase, Surjasta and Borosi. Surjasta, on the subject of child negligence and a suspense drama Borosi (The Trap) are his other major films. He also made a television film based on Tagore’s work, Dristi. A filmmaker-turned-writer, he published his first novel Ambari based on the Ambari Archeological site in Guwahati, in 2017. He has also made many acclaimed short films, which have been screened in several international film festivals.

 

His active career in entertainment industry began in 2002 when he started making documentary films for Doordarshan. Hatura (2002) and Abartan (2003) are his early works. In 2006 he made his first TV series titled Murder, followed by Mayajal and Shanti Tirtha, both aired in 2008. He made his first short film, Why I Write the same year which was screened at Hyderabad film festival, Mumbai International film festival, North East Film Festival and Twilight Film Festival, New Delhi. He later made short films and documentaries like An Anti-Insurgent Journey, A Short film about Walking etc which were screened at film festivals.

 

He became a full-fledged film director with Dhunia tirutabur in 2009, which won Best Director, Editor and Make up Award in State Assam Film Festival, 2010. His second feature film, Samiran Barua Ahi Ase was screened at 12th Kolkata International film festival, 2012. Surjasta and Borosi are his next two released films. Currently he is working on two feature films - Ji Golpor Sesh Nai and Chiahir Rong. He also scripts most of his films.
