Peeya Rai Chowdhary Biography

Peeya Rai Chowdhary is an Indian film actress, who predominantly works in Bollywood and Indian English films. She mostly plays supporting and character roles. Lakhi in Gurinder Chadha's Bride and Prejudice and Rita in Anjan Dutt’s movie The Bong Connection are her noted roles on silver screen. Her supporting role as "Kiran" in the TV show Hip Hip Hurray in the late 1990s earned her initial recognition and a few film roles as well. Peeya was formerly married to her The Bong Connection co-star Shayan Munshi. They got married in December 2005 and got separated in 2010.

Peeya Rai Chowdhary joined acting stream in the late 1990s. She started with TV shows and later moved to big screen. Peeya was first noticed for ZEE TV’s popular TV series, Hip Hip Hurray aired during 1998-2001. She played the supporting role of Kiran in one of the most loved TV shows of 1990s. In 2003 she marked her Bollywood debut with Darna Mana Hai, a horror anthology film produced by Ram Gopal Varma. She was seen as one among the friends who get killed by the psycho killer.

Later she played supporting roles in the films, Chupke Se (2003), Bride & Prejudice (2004), My Brother... Nikhil (2005), Home Delivery: Aapko... Ghar Tak (2005), The Bong Connection (2006) and The Truck of Dreams (2006). She married film actor, Shayan Munshi in 2005 just before the theatric release of The Bong Connection in which they worked together. When Shayan got accused as the one of key witnesses of the infamous Jessica Lal Murder case in 2010, the couple drifted apart. Interestingly a movie based on the incident was released the same year, and the actor Neil Bhopalan was modelled to play his role. She received only limited success in her professional career as an actress. Her name is often credited as Piya Rai Choudhray in some movies.
