Pattom Sadan Biography

Pattom Sadan was a Malayalam actor and mimicry artist. He played supporting roles in many movies since 1960s. Till he passed away in 1992, he appeared in many movies. He played comic and sidekick roles most. He has also rendered his voice for a few movies as a playback singer, mostly as a comedy singer. Thaarunyam Kaadinennum from Jungle Boy (1987) is one of his songs as a playback singer, and he sang this song aside Vani Jairam.

 

He has done many comedy songs with Yesudas and other singers, mainly providing imitations of birds or other funny noises. He has appeared in 83 movies and owns 27 film songs from 27 movies to his credit. Vrutham (1987), Prathigna (1983) and Aravam (1980) are among his noted movies in a supporting role. He repeated same kind of comedy roles on screen over and over and was mostly associated with slapstick comedy. Sadly he got type casted for this type of roles. He rarely got meaty roles to play on screen.

 

Pattom Sadan hailed from Pattom, Thiruvananthapuram. So he added ‘Pattom’ tag to his name. He was a prominent stage actor before joining films. He worked in more than 85 Malayalam films since late 1960s and also appeared in one Tamil movie - Aval Oru Thudarkadai. His debut movie was Chathurangam in 1959, and his first credited role was Balan in Arappavan (1961). He was quite active in the film scene throughout 1960s, 1970s and 1980s, apart from his stage performances as a mimicry actor. He mostly played comic roles on screen. He died at a private hospital at Vadapalani in 1992. He was last seen in 1995 movie, Hijack, released posthumously.
