Parvathy Jayaram Biography

Parvathy Jayaram is a popular actress of Malayalam during late 80’s and early 90’s. She is the wife of famous south Indian actor Jayaram and their son, Kalidasan is also a famous child actor who has won National awards. Born as ‘Aswathy’ she changed her screen name to Parvathy.

This beautiful lady with Kerala traditional looks was discovered by great director Bala Chandra Menon who casted her as heroine in the Malayalam movie ‘Vivahithare Ithile Ithile’(1986). Next year, Amritam Gamaya opposite Mohan lal was released. Then a series of Parvathy movies were released and she became a familiar face on Malayalam screen. During 1980’s we saw a lot of successful and critically well acclaimed roles of Parvathy and in most of them, she shared good screen chemistry with actor Jayaram, whom she married later. 1987 was a milestone year of her career, the roles for which she is remembered most till now. Her notable roles of 1987 include a rap victim of Ezhuthapurangal, lover of Jaalakam, an orphan take care by Nedumudi and Sharada in Oru minnaaminunginte nurungu vettam and a forgiving wife in Thuvanathumpikal. All these movies are still considered as classic episodes of Malayalam film industry. Other notable films of 80’s are Aranyakam, Vaisali, Witness, Puthiya karukkal, Vadakku nokki yanthram, Mudra, Adhipan, 1921, Aparan, Ponmuttayidunna Tharavu, Adharvam, Dauthyam, Ulsava Pittennu, Peruvannapurathe visheshangal, Carnival, Kireedam and Devadas.

When novel Devdas was remade to Malayalam, Parvathy played the role of Parvathy, with Nedumudi Venu as her husband and Venu nagavally as lover. Both her name and mannerisms suited the central character of the novel very much. Her notable works of 90’s include Subhayathra, Kizhakkan Pathrose, Radha Madhavam, Abhayam, Purappadu, Pava koothu, Thalayanamantharm, Amina tailors, Kamal dalam, Soorya gayathri and Valayam. It can be said that she was the most active heroine of Malayalam during the period 1987 to 1993, till she married Jayaram and got settled with her family life. Also, songs of her movies are counted among ever green numbers. Of all the roles played, Minnamininginte Nurungu Vettam, Vadakku Nokkiyentram, Radha Madhavam, Jaalakam and Kireedam will be remembered most. Also, she has done maximum movies with her husband. Now she is enjoying a happy family life.
