Parikshit Sahni Biography

Parikshit Sahni is a very popular television actor who works for movies as well. He is the son of great actor of yesterdays, Balraj Sahni. His uncle Bisham Sahni is a very famous novelist and short story writer. He is most popular for television serials, Barrister Vinod and Gul Gulshan Gulfaam of Doordarshan and Gaatha of STAR Plus. He is a popular character actor whose recent movies are 3 Idiots, Mere brother ki dulhan and Lage raho munna bhai. He is most known for ‘father roles’ in movies nowadays.   

 

Parikshit’s father, Balraj Sahni was a talented actor of yesterdays and often regarded as a role model to many leading actors of Bollywood later. He was born when his father was working as an English professor at Shanti Nikethan, Viswabharathy started by Rabindranath Tagore in Bengal.  His mother Damayanti Sahni was doing her Bachelors degree when he was born. He lost his mother at a younger age. Two years later, Balraj Sahni married his first cousin, Santosh Chandhok.

 

Parikshit Sahni did his schooling in Lawrence School, Sanawar and completed his college studies at St. Stephen's College. He started his acting career as a child artist in Deedar (1951). Later he tried adult roles too. Yet he was not able to match with the talents of his own father anywhere. His early films include - Anokhi Raat, Pavitra Paapi, Aansoo Aur Muskan, Mili, Hindustan Ki Kasam, Tapasya, Kabhie Kabhie, Doosra Aadmi, Jeevan Mukt and Kaala pathar. Among all these movies, his role in Pavitra Paapi was noted most.

 

During 1980’s and 90’s, he continued during character artist roles and a few of his memorable movies include – Desh premi, Andhar bahar, Meri Jung, Shakthimaan, Vijay, Yash and Marhi Da Deeva. After year 2000, he began to play a few memorable roles in movies like 3 Idiots, Mujhse dosthi karoge, Lage raho Munnabhai, Umrao jaan, Dulha mil gaya, Chance pe dance, My brother ki dulhan and Eklavya: The Royal Guard. His Punjabi movie, Marhi Da Diva (1989) needs special mention.

 

Among his serials, Barrister Vinod, Saarrthi, Saath phere, Gul gulshan gulfaam, Gaatha, Henna and The great Marata are his significant works.
