P. Parameswaran Biography

P. Parameswaran is a Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) personality from Kerala. The most senior RSSpracharak and ideologue in Kerala, he was awarded India's second highest civilian award the Padma Vibhushan in 2018. He currently serves as the director of Bharatiya Vichara Kendra and the president of Vivekananda Kendra, Kanyakumari. A Hindutva thinker, he is also a recipient of Padma Shri 2004 and Amritha Keerti Puraskar 2002. He is often referred to as Parameswarji. He has been associated with the Ramakrishna Mission and Advaita Ashram, Kalady earlier. He has authored manyl books on social, cultural and religious themes. He is a bachelor, currently residing in Thiruvananthapuram.

P. Parameswaran hails from Cherthala village of present day Alappuzha district, Kerala. A sublime personality, he is known for his sense of humour. He completed his graduation from University College, Thiruvananthapuram. Had an inclination towards Hinduism since young, he got associated with Hindu social and cultural organizations since young. He joined RSS during his school days and became an RSS pracharak in 1950, as instructed by his guru, M. S. Golwalkar. Since then he had a long-term association with the Hindu organization, slowly rising to several administrative positions.

During emergency period, he was jailed. Though he had an inclination towards politics in the 1950s and 1960s, Parameshwaran moved from politics to the sphere of social thought and development towards the end of 1970s. He served as the director of Deendayal Research Institute for 4 years during this period. In 1982, he moved back to Kerala, where he continued with his activities, and gave shape to Bharatiya Vichara Kendra. Popularizing Bhagavat Gita was one of the ideas proposed by him in the late 1990s.
