Omakuchi Narasimhan Biography

OmakuchiNarasimhan was a popular character artist associated with Tamil cinema, known for portraying comic roles. A great character artist, he has been a stage actor before entering movies and played distinct character roles in more than 1500 films belonging to 14 languages. This veteran comedianof myriad flicks is popular for his distinct looks and mannerisms. He shared screen space with famous comedians of Tamil cinema - Koundamani, Senthil, Vivek and Vadivelu to deliver some of the memorable scenes of Tamil cinema. Suriyan and Muthalvan are his noted Tamil roles. He also appeared in the Hindi version of Muthalvan – Nayak, the lead role played by Anil Kapoor. He also owns several guest appearances to his credit.


He was born in Chennai in 1936.Narasimhan made his debut in the 1949 movie Avvaiyar. But later he concentrated on to his studies and became a regular actor only in the 1980s. He completed graduation and worked in LIC for some time. But he continued to act in plays. He made his comeback through the movie - MeendumKokila in 1981. Since then he portrayed various character and comic roles onscreen for more than 1500 films which include Telugu, English, Hindi, Malayalam and Marathi.  


Omakuchi is the tag added to his name after he played the character Omakuchi in Thilairajan’s play, ‘NaradarumNanguThirudargalum’.  It was actor Suralirajanwho brought him back to films. Since then he appeared frequently in actor-director Visu’s movies.  He acted in English film ‘Indian Summer’ and his last release was ‘Thalainagaram’. He passed away on 12 March 2009 at the age of 73. He was ailing for a short period.
