Om Prakash Rao is a film producer, director and actor associated with Kannada film industry. He has directed 25 films till now. He concentrates on action films. Katte, Prince, AK 56, Bheema Theeradalli, Shiva, Chandralekha (2014) and Election are his recent works as a director. Gundu, Fair & Lovely, Dhool, The man etc are some of his noted performances in the recent times. Rao’s best work as a director is Huccha (2001) which earned him a nomination for Filmfare Award for Best Director. In 2014 he got caught in a casting couch sting by a TV channel, and was beaten up in public in Srirangapattina. Rao later apologized for his action.  

Made his film debut as a director in 1992 with the movie Adhipati, he has spent more than two decades in this industry. He has made several masala entertainers. AK-47 and Lockup Death are his biggest commercial hits belonging to action genres. Huccha, Kalasipalya, Ayya, and Bheema Teeradalli are regarded as his finest works. Chandralekha (2014) was also a box office hit. But he often invites criticism for combining two or three movies to form a single one. Since 2002, he also plays character roles for movies.

N. Om Prakash Rao was born in Bangalore, Karnataka into a filmy family. He is the son of famous comedy actor N. S. Rao and Yashodhamma. He has married thrice. His latest wife is Bhavya Premayya, a supporting actress in big and small screen. Rekha Das - a familiar actress of Kannada cinema was his first wife, with whom he has one child. Nanda was his second wife. All these are love marriages. His mother was upset of his latest marriage. He has been news for some wrong reasons. In 2014, Omprakash Rao, Guru Deshpande, Diwakar Babu and Rajashekar were caught on camera for luring girls to give film promises.
