Nirav Shah Biography

Nirav Shah is a successful cinematographer associated with Bollywood and Tamil cinema. He has also done a few works in Telugu cinema. He is best known for his works for Tamil hits – Madrasapattinam,Tamil Padam, Billa, Sarvam and many more. Telugu film - Size Zero (2015) is his latest work. Started his film career with the Bollywood flick, Paisa Vasool in 2004, he is best known for Dhoom Series in Bollywood. Dhoom – released in 2004 gave him the first big break to Bollywood. He also did the camera work of Hrithik Roshan starrer Dhoom 2 in 2006, though he was not a part of its next sequel in 2013. Banaras, Wanted and Gabbar is Back are other noted Bollywood works. 2.0 – the sequel of Enthiran is his much awaited project, scheduled to release in 2017.

Shah was born in Chennai in 1974. He has worked under several cinematographers as an assistant for a few years before his debut as an independent cinematographer for Bollywood flick, Paisa Vasool in 2004. Before his entry to Bollywood, he has done independent work for television advertisements, music videos and short films. He did two more Bollywood flicks – Dhoom and Intequam in 2004 and shot to fame with his amazing camera work for Dhoom – the biggest hit of 2004. He received a nomination at Star Screen Award for Best Cinematography for Dhoom. In 2006, he received Bollywood Movie Best Cinematography Award - Dhoom 2. He did the camera work aside Vikas Sivaraman for Dhoom 2.

After a successful entry with Bollywood films, he concentrated on Tamil films and is known for his memorable work in Billa, Madrasapattinam etc. Sandakozhi in 2005 marked his Collywood debut and two years later, with the release of Billa, he cemented his position in Tamil film industry. His work for Billa, earned him numerous awards including - Tamil Nadu State Film Award for Best Cinematographer, Cinema Rasigargal Sangam award and Isaiyaruvi Sunfeast Tamil Music Award.
