Natarajan Subramaniam Biography

Natarajan Subramaniam is a cinematographer associated with Tamil and Bollywood movies. He is also a well-known actor known for supporting roles. His role as conman in Sathuranga Vettai (2014) was widely praised. As a cinematographer, his best known works in Bollywood include - Golmaal Returns, Halla Boll, Black Friday, Jab we met, Lafangey Parindey, Love Aaj Kal, Raanjhanaa, Dezzi Boys, Parinita and Ekalavya. Vijay starrer Puli is his latest Tamil work. Earlier he has associated with Vijay for movies like Youth. He is also known by the nick names - Natty and Natraj.

Natty is a native of Paramakudi, Tamil Nadu. Photography was his passion since his childhood and he quit studies to become a photographer at the age of 18. He picked up some odd jobs and did photography at weddings in those early days. He briefly assisted cinematographer Vijayalakshmi and later worked on commercials, documentaries and music albums. He shot Euphoria Band’s first album in the late 1990s which received appreciation. Though he keep struggling in Bollywood to get an opportunity and got acquainted with a few well established directors of Bollywood, it took a little time to get work in movies.

Last Train to Mahakali (1999) marked his film debut and he worked in a few more movies before reaching Tollywood. Though he got a few opportunities in Tamil, he preferred to stay in Bollywood itself and delivered a few brilliant works like Jab we met, Ekalavya, Raanjhanaa, Parineeta etc. In between he started doing cameo roles in Tamil movies. Apart from his noted role in Sathuranga Vettai, he was also seen in movies like Katham Katham, Muthukku Muthaaga, Youth, Chakkara Viyugam, Milaga etc.
