Narendra Nath Biography

Narendra Nath was a very popular associated with Bollywood yesterdays, best known for playing supporting and negative roles. He was one of the glorious stars of 1970s, who didn’t get enough attention despite being talented. Yet he owns some of the memorable roles to his credit, and has been a part of several iconic movies and musicals of yesterdays such as Amrapali, Sharmilee, Kal Aaj Aur Kal, Sawan Bhadon, Jawani Diwani, Anamika, Rafoo Chakkar etc. Narendra Nath was the brother of popular Bollywood actors - Prem Nath and Rajendra Nath, and brother-in-law of great Raj Kapoor, who married his sister Krishna Malhotra.

Narendra Nath was born in British India in 1935. His full name is Narendra Nath Malhotra. Both his elder brothers Prem Nath and Rajendra Nath were legendary actors in the glorious era of Hindi cinema. Among his sisters, Krishna Malhotra married showman Raj Kapoor, and hence he was closely linked to the famous Kapoor family. Thus he was uncle of Rishi Kapoor and Randhir Kapoor, and granduncle of Karishma Kapoor, Ranbir Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor who ruled Bollywood since mid-1990s and later.

Noted actress of late 1950s, Bina Rai was married to his elder brother Prem Nath, and hence actor Prem Krishen was his nephew. Another sister Uma married Bollywood’s popular villain Prem Chopra. Hence Narendra Nath and his family are closely linked to many filmy families of Bollywood, most notably Kapoor family.

Narendra Nath started off his career as an assistant director in the second half of 1960s. He worked as an assistant director of the epic saga, Amrapali in 1966 and also played the brief but notable role of Buddha in the movie. He also worked as assistant director of Jhuk Gaya Aasman and Prince, before he completely moved to acting roles. He mostly played villain and grey shaded roles throughout 1990s, and was fully active throughout 1970s and 1980s. In the 1990s, he reduced his work; yet remained active till he passed away in 1998.
