Muthyala Subbaiah Biography

Muthyala Subbaiah is a Telugu film director who has done more than 50 films. Nicknamed Sentiment Subbaiah, his films are filled with high dose of emotions and melodrama. He enjoyed his career peak in the 1990s, and currently has retired from films. His last released movie was Aalayam in 2008. He started his film career with the movie, Moodu Mulla Bandham in 1980, gained momentum in the 1990s, and completed 51 films in a career spanning to about two decades. He also played a supporting role in the film Vandematharam.

 

Muthyala Subbaiah was born in Bitragunta, Prakasam district, Andhra Pradesh. Parlapalli is his native village, and his family was into agriculture. His parents are Sankaraiah and Seshamma, and he has three younger siblings. He was named after his grandfather Subbaiah. Since his early teens he got drawn towards theater and acting, and appeared in stage plays as a child artist. He completed his bachelor in commerce from Vidavalur. During his years in college, he was very much active in cultural events.

 

He joined films in Chennai as an assistant director, and he got married while working as an assistant in the industry. He first assisted Manapuram Apparao, followed by A. Sanjeevi, P. C. Reddy etc. He later co-directed a few movies with P. C. Reddy and T. Krishna, and stayed long in the film industry. In 1980, he turned a full-fledged film director with the film, Moodu Mulla Bandham, and turned regular in movies with the second half of 1980s. In 1986 he directed the film, Aruna Kiranam starring Rajasekhar and Vijayashanti which was a major hit, and there was no turning back after that.
