Maulvi Sher Ali Biography

Maulvi Sher Ali was a religious scholar and Muslim leader who was an associative of Mirza Ghulam Ahmad, the founder of Ahmadiyya Muslim Community in the late 19th century. He was one among the disciples of Hakeem Noor-ud-Din, the first caliph the worldwide Ahmadiyya Muslim Community. It was the reinstatement of the absolute oneness of God and the revival of Islam through the moral reformation of society along Islamic principles. He was also a follower of this form of religious community, which propagated Islam. This prominent Ahmadi scholar lived during the period, 24 November 1875 – 13 November 1947.

 

Maulvi Sher Ali was born on 24 November 1875 into a wealth Zamindar (landlord) family as the son of Maulvi Nizam ud Din. He had one sister Khadija Beguum who later wrote his short biography Seerat Hadrat Maulvi Sher Ali. He was influenced by the claims made by Mirza Ghulam Ahmad, and later remained his close associative. He later spent his whole life in the service of the cause of Ahmadiyyah, preaching the religious principles. He also remained a close confident, disciple and associative of Hakeem Noor-ud-Din, who succeeded as the leader of Ahmadiyyah. He extensively travelled with his guru which included his journey to Europe in 1924, and also participated in the Wembley’s Conference of Living Religions same year.

 

He gained recognition as an Ahmadi scholar, and had great depth of knowledge in Islam and Arabic. He served as the director of publications of Nazir Taleef at Qadian and also published the book Yana bi'ul Islam. Sher Ali died on 13 November 1947 at Lahore, a couple of months after independence. He was buried at the Bahishti Maqbara, Rabwah.
