Mangesh Hadawale Biography

Mangesh Hadawale is a film director, screenwriter and ad filmmaker. He predominantly works in Marathi entertainment industry. He gained recognition through this first film, Tingya in 2008 which opened to positive reviews from critics and was screened at the Pune International Film Festival. The movie won the best film award at Mumbai Academy of Movies Images on 14 March 2008, and a few more awards including National Film Award for Best Child Artist for Sharad Geokar. His second film, Dekh Indian Circus was also well appreciated in the international film festival circuit.

Mangesh Hadawale was born on 2 September 1981 in Pune district, Maharashtra. Rajuri village in Junnar is his native place. He was born into a farmers’ family. He completed his early education from his village itself. Afterwards he moved to Pune for higher studies. . In 2001 he completed graduation in theatre from the Center for Performing Arts, Pune, after which he moved to Mumbai to pursue his dreams to become a filmmaker.

Initially he wrote his first script Tingya. But it took long 5 years to finally find a production house to finance his movie. His script was rejected multiple times, as it was less commercial. However Marathi film Tingya went on to become a huge critical and commercial success, and Mangesh tasted success with his first film itself, after being rejected 41 times.

His second film - Dekh Indian Circus was released in Hindi in 2011. The film was premiered at the 16th Busan Film Festival in the New Currents section, and received highly positive reviews. It also won the very popular Audience Choice award. Its lead actors, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Tannishtha Chatterjee won best actor and best actress awards respectively at 12th annual New York Indian Film Festival.
