Malladihalli Sri Raghavendra Swamiji Biography

Malladihalli Sri Raghavendra Swamiji, popularly called "Malladihalli Swamiji", was a spiritual guru, yoga teacher and the founder of Anatha Sevashrama Trust, Malladihalli. He has authored several books on yoga and Ayurveda, apart from literature, drama and music, with the pen name, Thiruka. Though he has been offered several honours by Indian government and state government for his contributions to Indian yoga and other branches, this yogi declined them all.

Raghavendra Swami was born in a small village of Kerala in the year 1890. His parents were Padmambal and Anantha Padmanabha Namboodari. Later his name was changed to Raghavendra. He lost his mother at a younger age and was an ailing child during his childhood. He was adopted by Puthali Bai and Narasimhaiah on the advice of Bhirthi Ramachandra Shastry and his father left for a pilgrimage. His foster parents sent him to school and Raghavendra also learnt Carnatic music. He was fond of music, sang devotional songs and also participated in school plays.

One day, after return from school he was acquainted to Sri Nityanand Swamiji who blessed me with Tarakayoga. After that he entered a new spiritual world. He desired for the vision of God and sat meditating in lonely places like forest, hillock and the ruins of old temples. He also requested saints to show him god. But it was futile. So, after completion of exams, he left a letter to his foster parents and set in search of god. Later he met Sri Sri Swami Shivananda and spent 4 years with him, travelling from one place to another. He also learnt yoga. Once he heard a speech by Swamiji in Kolaba which completely overtook his ever longing desire of having a vision of God. He learnt Ayurveda from Lakshman Das and has treated more than 3 million people for various diseases.
