Makarand Deshpande Biography

Makarand Deshpande is a noted character artist of Bollywood, known for the roles in Swades, Makdee, Jungle, Sarfarosh, Guzarish and Darna Zaroori Hai. He owns an unconventional personality and is noted for his unusual outfits and hairstyles. His distinct hair style and mannerisms have helped him to gain quick attention from viewers though he has done only finger-count movies in Bollywood. Apart from being an actor, he is also known as a director and scriptwriter of Hindi and Marathi movies.

He is a noted a theatre artist who has written 35 full-length plays and 12 short plays for his own theatre, Ansh. He has also worked in Doordarshan serial Circus, which happened to one of the earliest small screen appearances of King Khan during late 1980’s. The hit song of Swades, ‘Yu hi chala chal rahi’ aside SRK made his special appearance in the movie, so special, though he appears only in that song. Though many believed that King Khan and Makarand are pals as their association has started long back with ‘Circus’, he denied those talks. But Shah Rukh Khan has made a cameo appearance in his directorial venture, "Shahrukh Bola Khoobsurat Hai Tu”. He has also done a cameo appearance in Indian soap - "Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi" and his role was extended later. He played a bit role of Aishwarya Rai’s husband in Sanjay Leela Bansali’s Guzarish in 2011.

Makarand has also been the popular choice of director Ram Gopal Varma who offered him the roles in Satya, Company, Jungle and Darna Zaroori Hai. In fact, Jungle was one of his earliest noted film roles. Most recently he received South Indian International Movie Awards for negative roles for the movies, Dandupalya and No. 66 Madura Bus. He has also acted as Jury for Marathi Paul Padate Pudhe, a reality show along with Urmila Matondkar. In 2013, he played a significant role in super hit Malayalam movie, Amen.
