Mahi Gill Biography

Mahi Gill is a popular heroine of Bollywood at present, most common in news for bold scenes. Audience remembers her most for her roles as Paro in Modern Devdas, Anurag Kasyap’s Dev D as well as Saheb biwi aur gangster and Gulaal.  Its sequel was also well received in 2013. Her other movies include Khoya Khoya Chand, Dabangg, Dabangg 2, Not a love story, Paan Singh Tomar, Mirch and Utt Pataang. She is always favourite among film makers who love to make off beat and parallel movies in Bollywood. In Dev D, she portrayed the role of Paro as a modern girl. This movie was a modern version of Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay’s Devdas in a new style with a surprise twist at the climax. The movie was well appreciated by the public.  In Saheb biwi aur gangster, she did the role of a frustrated life Madhavi Devi and the role is more or less similar to the classic epic of early 60’s, Saheb biwi aur ghulam, done by Meena Kumari.     

Mahi Gill was born in Punjab, Chandigarh in 1975. She completed Master in theatres from Punjab University. She was interested in movies as well as theatre. Her first break to movies happened in the form of a Punjabi movie in the year 2003. The movie was Hawayein. She did theatre plays in parallel. She got the first break to Bollywood in the form of Khoya khoya chand. The movie was a disaster. But as a full-fledged movie, role of Parminder in Dev D can be regarded as debut. This movie earned her Filmfare critics award for best actress too.

Then she completely switched on to Bollywood movies. in between she did a few Punjabi movies also. Carry on Jatta is one such. She got an opportunity to work in Ram Gopal Verma's 'Not a Love Story' based on a real murder story. Very often she has been pictured as betrayed wife in her roles and very often, she has become popular due to the bold scenes she did onscreen with the heroes of the movie. Sahib biwi aur gangster is one such, where she was casted opposite Jimmy Shergil and Randeep Hooda.
