M. A. Nishad Biography

Nishad M. A is a film director and screenwriter, who predominantly work in Malayalam films. In 2018 he won Kerala state award for best story for the movie, Kinar. He also directed this critically acclaimed film. As a writer and director, some of his other major works include – Pakal, Nagaram, Best of Luck, Aayudham, No. 66 Madhura Bus etc. In 2018, he marked his Tamil directorial debut with Keni, the Tamil version of Malayalam film, Kinar. The film starring Jayaprada and Revathi in the lead roles focused on the issue of water scarcity in a town between Kerala and Tamil Nadu. He also produced two Malayalam films – Thillana Thillana and Oraal Mathram.

 

Nishad is mostly associated with social dramas, and he chooses themes based on social issues. He started his film journey in the year 2006 with the social drama, Pakal, starring Prithviraj. Nagaram released the followed year, focused on social and environmental issues of utmost relevance. He followed a rule of working one just one film an year, and in the following years released movies – Aayudham, Vairam, Best of Luck etc. In the early 2010s, he began a project aside Thilakan and the movie was titled, Gandhi Square. However he failed to materialize.

 

Apart from doing movies related to social issues, he also raised his voice against a few happenings of Mollywood, whether it’s his filed complaint against Padmapriya and her manager for raising the cost of his film, No. 66 Madhura Bus in 2012 or his protest against the content from the film, Kohinoor (2015). His Facebook remarks about Kohinoor went viral over social media. With his recent release – Kinar, he once again came to spotlight.
