Locket Chatterjee Biography

Locket Chatterjee is a popular Bengali actress associated with Bengali cinema and television. Locket Chatterjee was born into a middle class family and has a blood relation with Great Ramakrishna Paramansha. She is a trained dancer who was associated with Mamata Shankar during her early days. Though a popular and charming actress, she is yet to play a lead role in the movies. She got married at a very young age of 16 and joined film industry in the year 2000 after she gave birth to a son. Perhaps that may be the reason why she has been never approached for a lead role. She got married to Prasenjit Bhattacharjee, who is working with the marketing division of a media house.

Locket Chatterjee was born on 4 December 1973 in Kolkata into a conservative family of temple priests. Her father and grandfather were temple priests and her mother a house wife. She graduated from Jogamaya Devi College, affiliated to the University of Calcutta. She wanted to do something related to arts. She is trained in different classical dance forms such as Bharat Natyam, Kathakali, Manipuri etc and her acting talents were encouraged by her parents. She was only 12 when she toured many foreign countries as a member of Mamata Shankar’s dance troupe. She grew up in the outskirts of Kolkata, on the banks of holy river Ganges.

She got married at a tender age of 16 and entered film industry in the year 2000. Since then she plays supporting roles on silver screen, apart from a few television shows. She received a nomination at Filmfare Awards for Best Actor Supporting Role (Female) for the Bengali film Nayika Sangbad (2014). In the movie, Cha-E-Chhuti she played a lesbian and she is known for her bold avatar in many of her movies. Durgeshnandini, Bhalobasha Theke Jaye and Maa Manasha are some of her TV shows and she was most recently seen in the films - Obhishopto Nighty, Kapurush Mohapurush, Oh Henry! etc.
