Lakshman (director) Biography

Lakshman is a successful film director and screenwriter associated with Tamil cinema. He has also directed one movie, Kalvanin Kadhali in 2006. As of now he has directed two successful films, both starring Jayam Ravi and Hansika Motwani – the romantic film Romeo Juliet in 2015 and supernatural thriller Bogan in 2017. Arvind Swamy played the role of antagonist in Bogan, as suggested by Jayam Ravi and his role was well appreciated.

He started off his film career as a distributor in the mid-2000s, before he forayed into film production and direction. S. J. Surya's New (2004) marked his successful career as a film distributor and he distributed the film in Chengalpet area of Tamil Nadu. It turned to be a successful venture and Lakshman started off his career as a film producer very soon. Kalvanin Kadhali marked his film career as a film producer and it starred S. J. Surya and Nayanthara in lead roles. The film had an average response critically and commercially. However he took hiatus from film industry for about a decade.

In 2015 he announced his new entry to cine world as a film director. Romeo Juliet in 2015 starring Jayam Ravi and Hansika Motwani marked his successful debut in Tamil cinema, and he joined hands with the same pair for his second flick, Bogan in 2017. Both the movies became commercially successful. He wrote the script for both these movies too. Initially he casted Nayanthara for the female lead in Romeo Juliet, and later replaced her with Hansika Motwani. Jayam Ravi and Nayanthara were working together for Thani Oruvan at that time, which prompted the director to find another actress to play the lead role. The film opened to negative reviews, but turned favourable at box office.
