Krishnam Raju Biography

Krishnam Raju is a Telugu film actor, best known as 'Rebel Star' for his rebellious style of acting. He is also a popular politician and parliamentarian too. He is active in politics since late 1990s. He has served in the Lok Sabha twice as a representative of Bharatiya Janata Party. He has been elected from Kakinada and Narasapur constituencies for the 12th and 13th Lok Sabha elections respectively. He served as a Minister of State for Ministry of External Affairs during the period 1999 to 2004. Later he has been associated with Praja Rajyam Party and Telugu Desam Party too and has lost both state elections and Lok sabha elections both. He is a recipient of 5 Filmfare awards and two Nandi awards. Noted film actor Prabhas is his nephew. Film producer Suryanarayana Raju is his younger brother.

 

He was born in Mogalthur, West Godavari in the year 1940. He has married twice. He entered the films in 1966 with Kotayya Pratyagatma’s Chilaka Gorinka. Later he acted in more than 180 Telugu movies portraying lead roles to character roles. He has been a prominent actor throughout 1970s and 1980s and earned the title 'Rebel Star' for his acting skills. He has now entered to television as well and has announced a project with his nephew Prabhas as well.

 

He bagged Filmfare award for best actor in Telugu for times. Amaradeepam (1977), Bobbili Brahmanna (1984), Tandra Paparayudu (1986) and Palnati Pourusham (1994) are the popular roles which helped him to bag best actor awards. In 2006 he was honoured with Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award (South) for his overall contributions to the Telugu film industry.
