Kaviyoor Sivaprasad Biography

Kaviyoor Sivaprasad is a reputed and National award winning film director and screenwriter associated with Malayalam. He is also a professor of St Joseph College of Communication, Kottayam. In 1994, his directorial venture - Ormaynde Theerangalil earned a special Jury award at National Film awards. 1990 film Vembanad received Kerala State Film Award (Special Jury Award) and he was awarded for best documentary in year 2000 at Kerala State awards for his work – Palathulliperuvallom. His son Sidhartha Siva is a talented young director of Malayalam who portrays character roles as well. This popular actor cum director, a National award winner has delivered three internationally acclaimed films - 101 Chodyangal (2012), Zahir (2013) and Ain (2014).

 

Kaviyoor Sivaprasad belongs to Kaviyoor, near Thiruvalla of Pathanamthitta district. This director who holds a diploma in direction is known for offbeat movies. Prior to joining St Joseph College of Communication, Kottayam as a professor, he has worked as Assistant Professor in Direction Film and Television Institute of India Pune and Visiting Professor at Department of communication, University of Hyderabad. He entered film scene in the early 1980s and made his first feature film – Jalarekha in 1981, an offbeat movie whose songs were composed by M. B. Sreenivasan. The movie was produced by Madavur V. Mohan.

 

Since then apart from films, he has directed a few television serials, 86 short films and documentaries. Parinayam for Asianet and Nimitham and Koomankolli for Doordarshan are his television works. Purooruvase (1985), Sairandhri, Gouri, Bheri, Ee Snehatheerathu and Sthalam are among his feature films. Noted for its songs, Kunchacko Boban received Kerala State Special Jury Award for Ee Snehatheerathu in 2004. The movie with evergreen hits like Udayarka Kiranangal and "Siva Siva" were composed by legendary musician L. Subramaniam, and sung by his wife - Kavita Subramaniam, leading Bollywood playback singer. His recent film Sthalam received CMS Vatavaran International Environment & Wildlife Film Festival Award for Best Feature Film.
