Kasi Viswanathan Biography

Kasi Viswanathan is a famous film editor associated with south Indian cinema. He works in Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam language films. Viswanathan has been conferred with the Distinguished Editor honor by Rocheston Accreditation Institute, New York for his outstanding work in movies. He made his debut as an editor with Kamal Haasan's Aalavandhan (2001), and later worked with Kamal Hassan for many movies. His work in his debut film was critically well acclaimed and also bagged him the prestigious Tamil Nadu state award for best editor. In 2016, he made his debut as an actor with a role in Suseenthiran's Maaveeran Kittu.

 

Kasi Viswanathan entered film industry in hope to become a cinematographer. But he failed to get opportunities, which prompted him to work as an assistant to Malayalam editor K. Narayanan. In the 1990s, he worked as an associate editor in Tamil films like Thevar Magan (1992) and Kuruthipunal (1996). Both the movies starred Kamal Hassan in lead role. A few years later, Kamal Hassan offered him the first independent work as an editor through Aalavandhan (2001), which earned him critics’ appreciation and accolades including a state award. Before Aalavandhan happened to him, he also worked under A. Sreekar Prasad for several movies belonging to Oriya, Sinhalese and Kannada languages as well.

 

As an editor, he has worked for more than 30 movies in the past 15 years or so and worked with some of the leading names of the industry like Kamal Hassan, Suseenthiran, Radha Mohan, Seenu Ramasamy, Sundar C etc. Aalavandhan, Chithiram Pesuthadi, Abhiyum Naanum, Veeram, Neerparavai, Kaasi, Mozhi etc are some of his best works. He made his acting debut in 2017 with the film, Maaveeran Kittu directed by Suseenthiran.
