Kaduvakulam Antony Biography

Kaduvakulam Antony was a noted comedian and character artist of Malayalam cinema who was active during the golden period of Indian cinema. Noted for his comic roles most, he has acted in over 300 films as comedian during the 1960s and 1970s. Antony was last seen in Adivaram (1997). Associated with Malayalam theatre, he was introduced to the Malayalam film industry by film actor Jose Prakash. Kaduvacheri vava in Kayamkulam Kochunni (1966), Ammit Anthony in Thiruvabharanam (1973), Shankunair in Thampuraty (1978), Chattam Velayudhan in Punnapra vayalar (1968) and Krishnan in Viruthan Shanku (1968) are some of his noted performances.

Antony was born on 9 November 1936 at Kuttanad of Alapuzha district. At the age of 2, his family shifted to Kottayam. He had 7 siblings. Since young Antony dreamt to become a comedian. He was known for his sense of humour since younger days. Though he ran a private finance company, he was very much associated with theater. Apart from amateur plays, he also did mono acts apart from the role of a comedian on stages. He was associated with N N Pillai's drama troupe for long 7 years and was introduced to Malayalam cinema by actor Jose Prakash.

The mythological film of 161, Bhakthakujela marked his film debut where he portrayed the chaarcetr role of Kuttipattar, for which he won a humour actor award. Since then he regularly played comic roles on big screen and was a noted character artist for many Malayalam films. Though he was active in film scene till late 1980s, he appeared in only a few movies since early 1990s. He played the role of a drama booking agent in classic hit – Mannar Mathai speaking. He passed away at his residence at Kadavakulam, Kottayam on 4 February 2001 following a cerebral hemorrhage.
