K. S. R. Das Biography

K. S. R. Das was an Indian film director and film editor. He was associated with many South Indian language films, primarily Telugu and Kannada. He has made about 30 films with Telugu superstar Krishna, and registered major success as well. He lived in Nellore, Andhra Pradesh during the period, 5 January 1936 – 8 June 2012. He had directed many blockbuster films in different south Indian language films. He was a recipient of the prestigious Puttanna Kanagal Award from Karnataka State Government. He worked for about 40 films in different roles. He has directed many cult classic films which were well received by audience. Mosagallaku Mosagadu is his most popular film.

Konda Subbarama Das, or simply Das or K. S. R. Das was born on 5 January 1936 in Venkatagiri of Nellore, British India, now a part of Andhra Pradesh state. Loguttu Perumallakeruka (1966) was his debut film. As a film director he is best known for his association with actor Krishna, with whom he did around 30 movies. Takkari Donga Chakkani Chukka (1969) was the first one in this series. He shot to instant fame after directing the movie, Mosagallaku Mosagadu in 1971. He has worked with almost all big stars of the industry like N. T. Rama Rao, Chiranjeevi, Rajinikanth and Vishnuvardhan since 1970s.

He made iconic films like ‘‘Mosagallaki Mosagadu’ with Krishna, ‘Yugandhar’ with NTR, ‘Billa Ranga’ with Chiranjeevi and ‘Annadammula Savaal’ with Rajinikanth. K.S.R. Das has over 100 films to his credit as a director including many blockbusters. With 1990s, he turned less active in film industry and Nagulamma (2000) was his last release. He passed away on 8 June 2012 while undergoing treatment at Apollo Hospitals in Chennai. His son is a Kannada film producer.
