K. R. Seetharama Sastry Biography 
K. R. Seetharama Sastry was a legendary cine personality associated with Kannada film industry. He was equally verse as an actor, director, lyricist and screenwriter. He was one among those early filmmakers of Kannada film industry who made significant contributions in the growth of Kannada cinema. He started his film journey as an actor in the mid-1930s with mythological movies and has been associated with cine scene till late 1970s. His mythological film, Mahakavi Kalidasa won the President's Silver Medal for Best feature film for the year 1955. The musical also emerged as the highest grosser of Kannada cinema the same year. The genius who marked his career as an actor turned a director, lyricist, writer and music composer with this film.
He is also known as Ku. Ra. Seetharama Sastry or simply Ku. Ra. Si. He was born and brought up in the kingdom of Mysore. He got attracted to the world of theater since younger days. He worked under Gubbi Veeranna, one of the pioneers of Kannada theatre. When he moved to silver screen as an actor, his early films were directed by Veeranna. The mythological film, Rajasuya Yaaga (1937) marked his career as an actor and he has been associated with film scene as an actor till 1955 before he switched on to direction. Occasionally he acted in movies as well.
With 1953 film, Gunasagari he turned an assistant director and in the following year he made his debut as a film director through Malay film – Iman. In 1955, he directed his first Kannada film, Mahakavi Kalidasa which received National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Kannada. Apart from playing a role, he also wrote screenplay and composed music. Very soon he rose to the position of a prominent director in Kannada film industry. In 1965 he produced one movie, Beratha Jeeva.
