Jyothirmayi Biography

Jyothirmayi is a successful South Indian actress, model and TV personality. She works most for Malayalam movies, though has presented herself in glamour role for quite a few Tamil movies.

Born in Kottayam, she entered fashion industry and very soon she entered Malayalam movies. Though she has done less significant roles in movies like Pilot and Ishtam, Meesa madhavan made her popular. Though the role was small her supporting character role in Meesa Madhavan, opposite Dileep in 2002 was well noticed and she became popular with its item number ‘Chinga maasam vannu chernaal’ pictured on herself and Dileep. Exactly the same year the movie ‘Bhavam’ won her Kerala state awards for second best actress and National awards Special Mention. Thus she began to be considered as the promising star of tomorrow.

She was casted opposite many leading heroes of Mollywood including Mamootty, Mohan lal, Suresh Gopi, Jayaram and Biju Menon. Her roles in Hariharan pilla happiyanu opposite Mohan lal, Pattalam opposite Biju Menon and her role as elder sister of Navya in Kalyana Raman were appreciated well by audience. In 2004, she did the role of a mother in the movie ‘Ente veedu appoontteyum’ opposite Jayaram. Jayram’s son Kalidasan did the role of the son of the coupe, where Jyothirmayi played the role of his step mother. It’s one among the best full-fledged roles and lovely performances she has done till now. Her roles in Kathavaseshan, Anyan, Pakal and Moonamathoraal were also well noticed and these movies were enough to cement her as a next door girl of Keralites.

She took a temporary break from the industry after her marriage with Nishant Kumar in 2004. But she returned back to movies two years later in glamour roles. But the role change from a traditional girl to glamorous girl was not well received by Kerala audience and brought criticisms as well. She did similar roles and item songs in Tamil movies, that took her far away from Kerala audience. Due to personal problems she drifted from her marriage and it resulted in a divorce that was substantially granted in the year 2011. Now she is busy with her film life and has acted in a few roles in Malayalam movies as well. The movies in her second innings include Seniors, Venshankhu pol and Janakan.
