Jomol Biography

Jomol is a Malayalam actress who was most active in the industry during the second half of 1990’s. She has also acted in a few movies as a child artist. Her birth name is Joma John. For her debut movie, ‘Ennu Swantham Janakikutty’ she won Kerala state awards for best actress as well as Special jury Mention at National awards in the year 1997. After that she has delivered many hit movies like Niram, Ustaad, Sheham, Punjabi house, Deepasthambham Mahascharyam and Mayilpeeli kaavu. She has also worked in Tamil movie - Piriyadha Varam Vendum.

Jomol was born in Thiruvambady, Thrissur. Her birth name was Joma John. She started her acting career as a child artist during late 80’s. A few of prominent movies include Oru vadakkan veeragatha she did the child role of Unniyarcha and My dear Muthachan, as one among the kids. As a leading actress, her first movie was ‘Ennu Swantham Janakikutty’. This movie belongs to all time best, critically well acclaimed film makers of Malayalam – M.T.Vasudevan and Hariharan team. The script lies in between mystery and reality and she gave full life to the teenager Jaanaki kutty in this movie.  

Next year she was seen in a series of movies – Chitrashalabham, Punjabi house, Mayilpeeli kaavu and Sneham. All these roles, both in leading and supporting roles, were well received.  She played the role of Dileep’s lover in the movie Punjabi house while she played younger sister’s role in Jayaram’s Sheham. After her debut movie, Mayilpeeli kaavu was that particular movie where she got a full-fledged role. She was paired opposite Kunchakko Boban and both the movie and its theme were well received too.

1998 too witnessed a few good roles of Jomol. She was the leading heroine of Dileep in the hit movie, Deepasthambham mahascharyam. She also became a part of the top hit movie of the year – Niram. She played second heroine role to Shalini in Kamal’s directorial venture ‘Niram’. It was for the second time that she was paired successively opposite Kunchako Boban. Her other movies are Arayannangalude Veedu, Randam Bhavam, Thilakkam, Thillana thillana and Puthooram Puthri Unniyarcha. She married her chat friend - Chandrasekhara Pillai. After her marriage with Chandrasekhara Pillai from Mumbai, she adopted Hinduism and changed her name to Gowri Chandrasekhara Pillai.
