Jayanth C. Paranjee Biography

Jayanth C. Paranjee is a south Indian film director, who predominantly works in Telugu cinema. The director is credited to introducing many top Bollywood actresses to Telugu cinema. He also worked with many heroines who later went on to become big stars in Bollywood. He has also worked with almost all leading Telugu superstars like Balakrishna, Nagarjuna, Venkatesh and Chiranjeevi. He marked his directorial debut with Preminchukundam Raa in 1997 which starred Venkatesh and Bollywood actress Anjala Zhaveri, and in a career spanning to two decades, he has directed a dozen of Telugu films.

Preity Zinta marked Telugu screen debut with his film Premante Idera in 1998, the same year her first two Bollywood films – Dil Se and Soldier got released. Aishwarya Rai who has worked in a couple of Tamil films in the 1990s marked her Telugu debut through Jayanth’s Ravoyi Chandamama in 1999. He remade Bollywood blockbuster Munnabhai MBBS into Telugu titled Shankar Dada M.B.B.S and brought Sonali Bendre on board in the year 2004, marking her Telugu debut. He also introduced Bollywood actresses Lisa Ray and Bipasha Basu to Telugu screen through Takkari Donga (2002) and Anjala Zaveri through Preminchukundam Raa (his debut film).

He also worked with Katrina Kaif in Allari Pidugu (2005), Rambha in Bavagaru Bagunnara (1998), Asin in Lakshmi Narasimha (2004), Trisha Krishnan in Theenmaar (2011) and Erica Fernandes in Ninnindale (2014) who worked in Bollywood too. Paranji was born in Karnataka to a Tamil speaking family. He was brought up in Bangalore. He started with English plays where he served as a play director, before he started with films. He has also done ad films and documentaries.
