Japinder Kaur Biography

Japinder Kaur is an Indian filmmaker, painter and writer who directed the movie, Dilliwali Zaalim Girlfriend in 2015. The movie starring Divyendu Sharma, Jackie Shroff and Prachi Mishra opened to negative reviews. She has also scripted and directed the short film - Via Kargil and worked in the marketing team of the Bollywood movie, Aarakshan. Japinder Kaur is Dubai based and she is of Punjabi origin. She shuttles between Mumbai and Dubai regularly for work. She is the co-founder of JAP FILMS LLC in Dubai.

She was born into a Sikh business family in 1988. Narinder Pal Singh and Manjeet Kaur are her parents, and she has one brother. Since studying class 6 she wanted to direct films. She graduated in Television production from Manipal University, Dubai. She later moved to India in 2009 where she studied Master’s in film direction from Whistling Woods International Institute, Mumbai. She was associated with TV channel City 7 TV as a reporter during her college days. After doing Master’s, she started off with short films before making her Bollywood debut. Her diploma film, Via Kargil, was shown in many film festivals.

When everyone wants to become an actor, this beautiful young director just wanted to be behind the camera. She assisted Shashant Shah for the movie, Challo Dilli and also worked with Prakash Jha for Aarakshan as a member of marketing team. She also had a short stint as a producer and director of television shows. But she believed that her destination was something else and fully concentrated on to her film career. Her debut film, Dilliwali Zaalim Girlfriend in 2015 received U/A certificate and muted 63 times. This has not gone well with the director. However the movie bombed at box office. Yo Yo Honey Singh played his first special appearance in this movie.
