Jagmohan Kaur Biography

Jagmohan Kaur was a popular female Punjabi singer and film actress who lived in the 20^th century. She lived during the period, 16 April 1948 – 6 December 1997, and both her life and career were short-lived. Associated with folk music, some of her popular Punjabi songs are Bapu Ve Add Hunni Ain, Ghara Wajjda, Gharoli Wajjdi etc. Kaur was the wife of the popular Punjabi singer, K. Deep and the couple frequently sang and performed duets together. They also recorded many songs together. Jagmohan has also acted in a few Punjabi films such as Daaj (1976), Mutiyar (1979) & Dushmani Di Agg (1990), and did playback singing for Sukhi Parwar (1980) and Do Jattiyan.

Jagmohan Kaur was born on 16 April 1948 in Pathankot, Punjab. She gained recognition as a Singer, Actress, Teacher and Comedian. Though she carried different kind of roles, she was most popular as a singer. She also acted and sang for Punjabi films. She was a teacher by profession. Gurbachan Singh kang and Parkash Kaur were her parents. She grew up in Boor Majra village, which is now a part of Ropar district. She completed her primary education from village school, and continued schooling at Kurali and Kharar. Later she completed a teacher’s training course and started her career as a teacher.

Along with her teaching career, she was active in her musical journey also. But later she left her teacher’s job and dedicated her full time towards a professional career in music. She is best known for recording some of the memorable duets with her husband K. Deep, a well-known Punjabi folk singer. Their duets were instant hits in the 1970s and later. She met singer K. Deep in a musical show in Kolkata and they got married in 1971. The couple has one daughter.
