Jagdish Mali Biography

Jagdish Mali was an Indian fashion photography associated with Bollywood. As a celebrated photographer of Indian entertainment industry has taken the photographs of many leading celebrities of Bollywood like Rekha, Manisha Koirala, Shabana Azmi etc. Noted actress Antara Mali is his daughter. He has spent more than 3 decades in the Bollywood film industry for more than three decades since early 1970s. He worked for the cine magazine Cine Blitz in the 1980s and known for taking photographs of leading actress of the decade Rekha during this time. This ace photographer passed away on May 13, 2013 in Mumbai at the age of 59.

Mali was born on 18 January 1954. Since school days he dreamt about a career in photography and paid little interest in studies. He lived in Bandra and his father was an artist. He shot to fame after becoming the leading photographer of Bollywood diva Rekha in the 1980s. His works have been compared with many leading Indian photographers of his time. His works on Aamir Khan’s Ghulam earned him much appreciation.

A few months before his death, he was seen wandering in Anderi in semi-nude and a NGO helped him to improve his sick condition. It also blamed Antara Mali for such a condition, which created many controversies later. A few months later he passed away at a private hospital. He was suffering from liver cirrhosis and diabetics for a long time. He was admitted in hospital for a hip fracture and died of multi-organ failure.
